run a weekly sport club

Help your community grow in their connections with Jesus, His Story, and His People

SU Sports Clubs are A Different Kind of Children’s Ministry

SU Sports Clubs are weekly discipleship clubs that help your church build meaningful connections with children and families in your community. Using sport as a natural bridge, clubs create welcoming spaces where children return week after week to belong, build relationships, and explore faith.

Clubs are simple and flexible to run, usually meeting for 6–12 weeks and shaped around your church’s schedule, space, and capacity. Each gathering includes sport, relational time, and Scripture engagement that helps faith grow in natural ways.

Through consistent connection, children come to feel known, safe, and connected to your church, and over time many take meaningful steps in faith.

What Do Sports Clubs Look Like?

Sports camps are week-long day camps hosted by local churches. Each day includes sport, games, Bible engagement, and time for relationships to grow. Camps are designed to fit a church’s space and volunteer capacity, making them a practical and effective form of sports outreach for children (ages 6-12).

How Sports Clubs Work

Sports Clubs are designed for children ages 6–12 and run as a 90-minute program once a week for 6-12 weeks. Children are placed in age-based mini-teams and receive coaching in different sports, with each sport explored over a two-week period.

Volunteer coaches from your church lead the club and are trained and equipped by SU through coaching and resources.

Each child receives a participant kit with a t-shirt, water bottle, and Bible, helping create a sense of belonging from the first week.

What Does A Club Night Look like?

The club begins with a warm-up to get moving, followed by a sports session where children learn a skill and explore how it connects to Jesus’ character.

Children then gather for Team Talk to hear what Jesus has to say, before taking part in an experiential game that brings the lesson to life. Each night wraps up with Coaches Corner, where a coach shares a personal story of faith and encourages children in their own walk with Jesus.

Helping Children GROW

Sports Clubs are built around four simple habits that help faith take root.

  • Go to Sports Club and show up each week

  • Read the Bible and listen to God’s Word

  • Obey Coach Jesus by putting faith into action

  • Welcome others and help everyone belong

These rhythms give children a clear, memorable way to grow in faith through sport, Scripture, and community.

"The training and resources from Scripture Union gave our team the confidence to make our Sports Club our own. We've added other electives for children to choose from and events for parents on the same night as well. It has become a meaningful part of how our church disciples children and families."

Sports discipleship clubs are weekly programs that use sport, Scripture, and relationships to help children grow in faith.

Clubs combine recreational skill-based sports activities with Bible reading, games, prayer, and conversation about following Jesus.

They are designed for churches to run at church and in the community, reaching children who may not attend Sunday services.

Sports discipleship clubs are designed for:

  • Children ages 6–12

  • Families in the local community

  • Churches seeking weekday discipleship beyond Sunday

  • Follow up from SU Sports Camps

Clubs work well as a bridge between home and church, helping families engage faith together in natural, relational ways.

Your church does not need a gym, large budget, or professional coaches to start a sports discipleship club.
Clubs can run in a church hall, shared school gym, or other local community space. Sessions adapt to the facilities you already have. SU supports your church with resources and volunteer training.

Your volunteer team can be small. Leaders receive training, session plans, and ongoing support from Scripture Union Canada, so volunteers do not need a sports background.

Churches do not need another program. They need support, experience, and trusted partnership.

Scripture Union Canada helps churches:

  • Expand ministry capacity without starting from scratch
  • Receive training and coaching for leaders and volunteers
  • Access tested resources shaped by decades of experience
  • Adapt sports ministry to their local context and goals
  • Stay focused on discipleship, not logistics

SU walks alongside churches as partners, helping them use sport to connect people with Jesus and His Story.
